Secondary Pedagogy Hub: Using Cognitive Science in the Classroom

Description

Following the success of our Inclusive Pedagogy hub, our Cognitive Science pedagogy hub for Secondary practitioners will be launched on Monday 31st March.

Over the course of four sessions, participants have the chance to explore the powerful impact of cognitive science on teaching and learning, exploring how student mental faculties including perception, memory, attention, reasoning, language, and emotion all play a part in deeper learning and recall, deepening understanding. The sessions will explore the evidence behind cognitive science strategies and how to apply them effectively in the Secondary classroom to ensure student recall and longer term memory of key knowledge and skills.

What will be covered?

  • A shared understanding of cognitive science and memory.
  • Applying the principles of cognitive science and memory to curriculum, teaching and assessment.
  • Developing understanding of retrieval practice and cognitive load in practice

With take away resources and guidance for all participants, these sessions are packed with practical strategies that teachers can immediately apply to support the progress of all students:

Who should attend?

  • Classroom teachers with 2+ years of experience: To enhance their teaching toolkit with advanced strategies.
  • ECT graduates: Build on the cognitive science themes already explored and take skills to the next level.

We are keen that all Camden Secondary schools identify staff to sign up and transform their teaching practice.  Attending the Hub is included in your membership to Camden Learning with no additional charge to Camden schools.
