Securing Strong Foundations in Writing

This CPD session focuses on strengthening the fundamental building blocks of writing to ensure pupils develop secure, fluent and accurate written communication.

Participants will explore effective approaches to teaching transcription, sentence construction and vocabulary development, with a focus on how these elements underpin successful writing across the curriculum. The session emphasises practical strategies that can be embedded into everyday classroom practice to support all learners, including those who struggle to write with confidence and accuracy.

Participants will explore how to:

• Secure transcription skills, including spelling and handwriting

• Develop sentence construction and grammatical control

• Build pupils’ vocabulary to support clarity and expression

• Identify and address gaps in foundational writing skills

Through practical examples and classroom-ready strategies, teachers will be equipped to strengthen the core skills that enable pupils to become confident, fluent writers.
