Habitat Mapping with the National Education Nature Park
Relevant to PSHE Leads, Sustainability Leads.
Description
This CPD session explores how the National Education Nature Park, a free, DfE-commissioned programme, can support schools in enhancing biodiversity across their site. Participants will gain hands-on experience using programme resources, including GIS mapping tools to create a biodiversity baseline, plan improvements, and track environmental change over time. The session also highlights practical ways to involve pupils in meaningful, data-informed action.
Participants will explore how to:
- map habitats and establish a biodiversity baseline
- identify opportunities to enhance nature on school sites
- use digital tools to monitor and measure environmental impact
- engage pupils in creating and evaluating change
Through practical guidance and discussion, this session supports schools to take informed, measurable steps towards increasing biodiversity and enriching learning through real-world environmental action.
