Mental Health and PSHE Education

Description

This session will explore the topic of mental health and its impact on a child’s development, growth, and learning. It will begin by examining the biological foundations of mental health and considering how risk and protective factors influence the activation of a child’s stress response. Participants will reflect on how a child’s thoughts, feelings, physical sensations, and behaviours can affect their overall wellbeing—both positively and negatively. A significant portion of the session will be dedicated to practical, classroom-based strategies, complemented by psychoeducation to enhance understanding of the developing brain and its role in emotional wellbeing and resilience. The session will also introduce the concept of protective conversations and how to safeguard students who may be experiencing mental health difficulties. In addition, participants will be guided through relevant signposting and resources to support ongoing care and intervention.
